Stanislao Lepri was born in Rome in 1905. Coming from a family of diplomatic aristocrats, he trained and began a career as an Italian consul in the principality of Monaco, then in Brussels. His life took a completely different turn when he quit his job to turn to art in 1942. For example, he held his first solo exhibition at the Galleria la Finestra in Rome in 1946. Then began a career close to surrealism during which he developed a singular, often strange universe. His stylistic proximity to Leonor Fini, whose life he shared alongside Konstanty Jelenski, will often lead to him being a bit forgotten. However, the work remains quite abundant, often fantastic, and this over a fairly long career.
Lepri is present in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in the City of Paris, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, and the Moma in New York.
