“The night with the big sails passes slowly”
Frederic Benrath, a post-war painter linked to lyrical abstraction artists, was trained at the Beaux Arts in Paris. Very admiring German romanticism, he drew his thoughts on landscape from it. Very early on, he met Henri Michaux and René Char who would be solid supporters for him. Its fluid and almost cloudy material from the 1960s will thicken, the gesture of the beginnings will disappear in favor of the material, even going so far as to expand during the 80s to become close to expressionism.
