Jacques Pouchain was born in 1929 in Paris. After studying architecture in Paris, he moved to Dieulefit in Drôme. In 1958, he opened his own ceramic workshop and produced a utilitarian production of unique pieces with figurative patterns engraved in the earth and enamelled in brown and black tones. He created a sculptural work by temporarily using manganese oxide placed on white enamel in the early 1960s. In the 1970s, he developed the theme of femininity, fertility as well as numerous zoomorphic works.
