Pierre Lagenia (1938-2020)
A sailor
Massive Huelgat granite head.
Signed on the back of the neck “P.Lagenie”
Height without the base 34.5 cm.
Provenance: sale of the artist's studio
This post-war French sculptor was first trained at the Beaux Arts in Bordeaux before joining Marcel Gimond's studio at the Beaux Arts de Paris in 1957. We find in this granite the trace of Gimond's teaching, in particular with this taste for a frontal and hierarchical posture. The almond-shaped eyes and the subtlety of the details of the lips and ears give this head a certain softness.
