Georges Noël, Egyptian Palimpsest, 1964
Mixed media on pasted paper.
Dimensions 100 x 73 cm
Origin: Baronne Alix de Rothschild Collection.
Georges Noël 1924/2010, is a major and singular figure in post-war abstract art. Encouraged by Dubuffet, supported and shown by Paul Facchetti from 1957. He will spend part of his career in the United States. Often ranked alongside the great informal artists of his time, his work and his practice remain separate. Its proximity to the major players in contemporary art of the time is obvious, note the similarities made by the Christophe Gaillard gallery between the works of Dubuffet and Noel around the years 1957/1960. And how can you not think of Twombly.
