Jean Villeri (1896-1982)
Oil on canvas signed lower right, located and dated on the back “Cagnes sur mer, 1964"
Dimensions 131x91cm.
Villeri, an informal painter from the École de Paris, was a member of the Abstraction-Création group as early as 1934 alongside Mondrian, Herbin, Kandinsky.
It was exhibited at the Maeght Gallery in 1948 and then at the Salon des Réalities Nouvelles alongside Bazaine, Manessier, Estève. From 1955, the material took a predominant place in his work. Our canvas, dated 1964, illustrates well Villeri's plastic research. The very thick material is covered with a glaze which gives the work an enamelled appearance.
Our painting is in good condition.
